Eli's Last Day of School

On December 21st, I got a call from the school. Eli had just had a choking episode, his first one at school. It was pretty scary for them, although he recovered quickly and was doing better when they called. I had decided a while ago, that I would continue to send Eli to school as long as he wasn't having consistent medical problems while there. I didn't want them to have to deal with that, especially in front of the other children. And I of course want what's best for Eli. So Brad and I decided that the following day would be his last day of school, the last day before winter break.

I called and spoke with the special needs coordinator that afternoon and informed her of our decision. She was supportive and understood. Later that evening she told me that they had a party planned for Eli the next day and we were invited. I couldn't believe they put a party together so last minute! DWE has always been kind and thoughtful towards our children.

He had another choking episode on his last day of school and continues to have problems here at home, so it was definitely the right decision. And now he has a chance to sleep in and relax each morning, which he really needs.

Here are some pictures from the party.

One of Eli's Para Professionals from last year and Laya came to visit him in his classroom.

Eli's Para Professional from this year is holding him, Brad and I were so happy to be there!

Eli's PE teacher gave him this cute angry bird to squeeze!

Beautiful faces!

His Para Professional from two years ago gave him this cozy hat!

Evan stopped by with his para pro to see Eli.

The kids made a large snowflake for us to take home!

All of the kids in Eli's class and his entire time at Desert Willow have treated him so kindly. Look at the cute streamers and balloons they threw together the night before!

Another of Eli's Para Professionals from last year and her son Austin gave Eli the book, "Frosty the Snowman". Austin recorded himself (has a recorder in the book) reading it to Eli. So sweet! Austin has been one of Eli's best friends at school.

Eli's had a lot of wonderful people care for him throughout his 3 1/2 years at Desert Willow

Thank you Desert Willow Elementary! We love you too!
